OMGWTF Lyric is updating!!!11!eleventy
Jun. 21st, 2006 11:33 amOkay, well. Plainly the term "Recent Entries," when referring to Lyric, is meant to be ironic. Or just as a demonstration of how truly lazy I am about updating.
I do intend to change all that, starting today, by catching up with everyone and being quite a bit more proactive about posting my work and my news, so here is a little update about me. For the past two years, I've been working for the same company, for the same man, who not only expected me to consistently and correctly read his mind (gypsy might be in my heritage, but fortune teller I am not, thx) but by the beginning of this year, had cut my work hours by twenty percent and yet still had money enough to take himself on a Hawaiian vacation in May. Unsurprisingly, three weeks ago he told me he was letting me go, essentially laying me off in favor of using me occasionally for contract work and no longer needing to pay half of my insurance premiums (a whole $90 a month. God forbid).
So here I am, effectively unemployed for the first week in quite a long time. I should be eligible for unemployment, which I will apply for online. My best source of help, however, was the animation Career Services Adviser at my former college, and he's no longer employed there--I'll need to meet his replacement, and try to impress him or her enough to be of some help to me.
The worst of it, I suppose, is that I'm not entirely sure what I want to do. For the past two years I've worked as a graphic designer and animator in the gambling industry, but I chose the company more out of expediency than any particular desire on my part. I would rather do something more directly artistic, I suppose, and something that will leave me with enough energy to write and draw on my own time. This is probably all wishful thinking, really, and I'll very likely have to take what I can get.
In any case, things are obviously a little strange just now, but we'll see how life goes for the next week or so while I get myself in order, updating my portfolio and resume and trying to piece together a better demo reel. Unfortunately, I lost some material when my hard disk crashed back in September, but for a short term reel, I should be able to put everything together again fairly quickly. In the meantime, I can work on something better, with a theme that reflects me now instead of a theme that reflects me...two years ago. I intend to keep a positive outlook, and take things one day at a time and one task at a time. ^^
